Start Spreading The News, Hong Kong, Hong Kong!
As far as modern cities go Hong Kong has to be close to the top. But its charm lies in more than flashing lights and lazer shows. Hong Kong captures the hearts of CitySlickers, Tree Huggers, Yoga Monks, Trail Blazers and business boffins. This pic captures it's energy, youth, and Asian omnisity.

Green and Blue:

With a name that translates to BEACH, you don't expect much more than sand and waves, but Strand and it's neighbor Somerset West offers more than summer surf. This pic was taken close to where I live, and the summer was so hot but yet so green. I just wanted to capture the immense blue distant wild mountain and the controlled and kept golf green. In the foreground are some some plant life that is gutting out of a small wild river. Makes me wonder if this golf coarse had not been built there if this amazing space would not have by now been covered in small generic homes, like many amazing spaces in Cape Town is being transformed into copy-and-paste suberbia...

No place on earth can match the man made beauty and grace of Beijing's Temple Of Heaven. Designed as a worship ground this massive complex is a true reflextion of what the philosophy of FENG SHUI is. With this pic I trided to capture these people in the foreground as they left "Heaven". This big doors almost capture us, restricting us to this realm. The frame this door creates only gives us a glimpse of heaven.

Flower For Freedom

In the North of China is a province called Shanxi, it is not the same Shanxi province that boast the Terra Cotta Soldiers but rahter a forgotten and overlooked twin. This pic just shows a new cherry blossom reaching out to the sky. If this flower could have grown wings it would have done so.

Most people imagine a Ghost House as a big manor with screeching doors and burning candles. I think this house could host some creepy memories that left it forgotten and abandoned. The one green room reminds me of a nursery or kids room, and the burnt living room seems tragic and fatal.

Coffee and Communists

This is a self portriat of me sipping coffee in a very
rustic coffee shop in Beijing. I had just voted in the South African 2008 Democratic Elections at the South African Embassy in Beijing. The idea of taking part in my democratic right to vote for a leader to rule my country in China felt like such an honour, an honour that most poeple in democratic countries don't even consider when they decide not to vote. To my right shoulder, below the word "KILA" it reads "Hong Kong, Fight For Freedom" which is part of the movement to ensure Hong Kong keeps it independance from the People's Republic of China. The fate of Hong Kong is a symbol to all Chinese who believe in a democratic China. I believe in freedom and self expression but have to ask myself what does freedom really mean.

This view from the Rockerfeller Centre (30 Rock) is a very famous vantage point. Millions of people have taken this exact same picture before me, but taking it yourself still feels special. New York city is not the most famous city in the world because of America's complete control over the worlds media but because this city is, to each person that has ever witnessed it, something completyly different. New York is the city of oppertunity, no matter how big, or small your dreams are, you can do it here. The purple sky made the view feel almost alien, like a city from another universe or dimension.
